Member of Jersey City gang sentenced to 7-plus years in prison for revenge stabbing

A member of a Jersey City neighborhood street gang was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for stabbing a rival gang member as payback for a two-year-old assault on him, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger announced Tuesday.

Sheldon Mays, aka “Thottie,” 23, of Jersey City, had pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Kevin McNulty to one count of assault with a dangerous weapon in aid of racketeering. Mays, who was sentenced Monday in Newark federal court, must also serve three years of supervised release.
