It’s been 75 years since President Harry S. Truman, acting against the advice of his State Department, recognized the State of Israel as a post-World War II concession to European Jews who fled Palestine a thousand years before.

Creating a new state in 1948 based on what some skeptics might say is Jewish folklore doesn’t seem to be working. Will Palestinians ever accept Zionism, which some view as the Jewish version of America’s “Manifest Destiny,” to annex additional land and displace those who’ve traditionally lived there?
