Ex-Jersey Shore special cop charged with loan sharking

A former special police officer in Long Branch ripped off members of the local Brazilian-American community by running an illegal money-loaning operation that charged excessively high interested rates, authorities said.

Bruno Lopes-Ferreira, 30, was charged last week with second-degree criminal usury, engaging in the business of criminal usury and possession of usurious loan records, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office said.
