N.J. chips away at massive judge backlog, but many more seats are still unfilled

Ending a five-month hiatus, state lawmakers have resumed chipping away at New Jersey’s massive judge shortage — though dozens of seats on the bench remain unfilled.

The state Senate on Monday confirmed 11 nominees to become state Superior Court judges, the latest attempt to tackle what’s been described as a vacancy “crisis” that has hobbled the pace of justice in the Garden State.
