CT man seriously injured in July crash accused of speeding and driving while intoxicated

A Stamford man is facing DUI charges in connection with a serious crash involving a dump truck in Stamford in July.

The Stamford Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad recently completed an investigation into a serious injury motor vehicle collision that took place on Long Ridge Road near the intersection with Roxbury Road around 9 p.m. on July 28, according to Sgt. Jeffrey Booth of the Stamford Police Department.

The investigation revealed that a 2007 Sterling full-size dump truck was traveling southbound on Long Ridge Road and was slowing down as the traffic light was turning red when a 2024 Kia EV6 SUV, also traveling south on Long Ridge Road, hit the back of the dump truck, Booth said.

The Kia driver, identified as 48-year-old Michael Lombardo of Stamford, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries in the collision, according to Booth. Lombardo needed to be extricated from the vehicle due to the damage.

The dump truck driver was transported to Stamford Hospital for suspected minor injuries, Booth said.

The investigation determined that Lombardo was allegedly driving the vehicle at speed up to 80 mph prior to the crash, according to Booth. Investigators also alleged that Lombardo was intoxicated at the time of the crash with a blood alcohol content more than double the legal limit.

Lombardo was arrested and charged with operating under the influence and reckless operation. He was released after posting a $75,000 court-set bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 10.
