Grand jury to hear case of man accused of killing former girlfriend in June

Tyli Scott appeared in court Monday afternoon on charges stemming from the shooting death of 28-year-old Alexus Foreman in June.

Scott is facing charges of second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, along with eight misdemeanor charges dating back to 2020, which include three charges of stealing credit card numbers and one charge each of petit larceny, destruction of property, brandishing a firearm and simple assault.

Scott waived a preliminary hearing on all of his felony charges. His misdemeanor charges were certified ancillary. His case will be considered by a grand jury in December, the judge ruled.

He is accused of killing Foreman on June 16 and fleeing with their 4-year-old son, for whom an Amber Alert was later issued. The child was found safe about 12 hours later at a home in Virginia Beach where Scott was arrested.

Senior Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Michelle Newkirk told a judge at a bond hearing in June that Scott threatened Foreman the night before her death, and showed up to her house the next morning. After an argument that turned physical, Foreman ran away from Scott and he shot her in the head, according to Newkirk.

Scott is being held without bond.
