Idaho murders: Investigators work through Thanksgiving Day as college town shuts down

MOSCOW, Idaho – Eleven days after the grisly stabbing deaths of four University of Idaho students, Moscow had become a ghost town.

It was a somber Thanksgiving Day, with nearly every business on Main Street closed — except the gym. Many students had gone home to spend the holiday with family, or to distance themselves from the shocking unsolved slayings.

Outside Mad Greek, a makeshift memorial honors the victims. It’s one of several that have cropped up around town and on campus.

Two of the victims, Madison Mogen, 21, and Xana Kernodle, 20, worked there. In the window is a flyer asking the public for tips.

“I don’t know what to say other than you were amazing individuals who didn’t deserve this,” a note read.

The two women, along with Ethan Chapin, 20, and Kaylee Goncalves, 21, were stabbed to death in their sleep on Nov. 13 between 3 and 4 a.m. in a rental house where the three young women lived with two other roommates who were not harmed. Chapin was Kernodle’s boyfriend and stayed over that night.

UNIVERSITY OF IDAHO STUDENTS KILLED: A TIMELINE OF EVENTS

A woman working at the coffee shop near Moscow police headquarters said she didn’t expect anyone else to be open on the holiday.

Few cars drove through the area. Most parking lots were empty.

But investigators were seen working through the holiday, getting a late morning start.

FBI personnel and uniformed officers came and went. A man in plainclothes briefly came out front, said police headquarters was “packed” inside, and returned through the locked front doors.

Two people arrived to drop off boxes of donuts, and at one point a truck arrived to put fuel in the mobile command center, which was stationed in the gated parking lot behind the police station at the start of the day.

WATCH: Moscow police deliver an update:

Moscow Police Chief James Fry did not immediately respond to questions about Thanksgiving staffing, but at a news briefing Wednesday, authorities said they planned to keep the investigation running through the holiday.

Aaron Snell, the communications director for the Idaho State Police, told Fox News Digital Thursday that investigators would be working around the clock and Thanksgiving and through the holiday weekend.

“We have numerous detectives that continue working, FBI agents that continue working,” he said. “They will work through this holiday and through the weekend.”

IDAHO COLLEGE MURDERS: EXPERTS LEFT ‘STUNNED’ BY MISSTEPS IN INVESTIGATION

Outside the victims’ home just off campus, Latah County sheriff’s deputies stood guard. Behind them, pink tape sealed the front door, marked off and time-stamped for each investigator who had gone inside.

Crime scene tape remains around the property, where the blinds have been pulled closed. The victims’ cars were still parked outside Thursday morning.

And investigators have their work cut out for them. A classmate told Fox News Digital Wednesday that the victims lived in a known “party house,” where dozens of friends could have passed through in the days before the murder, complicating the collection of DNA evidence at the scene.

“They could have had a party last week between 40, 50 people, so hair evidence, all that stuff becomes very suspect,” Joseph Giacalone, an adjunct professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York and a retired NYPD sergeant, told Fox News Digital. “Because of the dynamics of what you’re dealing with here, you have to rely on phone records, internet records and surveillance video to try to piece this thing together.”

Police have not publicly identified any suspects or persons of interest.

But they have ruled out the two female roommates who were downstairs at the time of the murders, a man who appeared on surveillance video at a food truck at the same time as Goncalves and Mogen shortly before they returned home, a “private party” driver who took them to the house, Goncalves’ ex-boyfriend and a group of friends who were present at the house Sunday morning when the initial 911 call was placed.

Police said Wednesday they’d taken 4,000 photographs and collected 103 “pieces of evidence.”

They also said detectives seized the contents of three dumpsters on King Road as part of the investigation.

They are asking for anyone with surveillance images in the surrounding area to turn them over.

They have not recovered the murder weapon and have been unable to confirm reports that Goncalves had a stalker before the attack.

“Kaylee mentioned having a stalker, but detectives have been unable to corroborate the statement,” police said in a statement. “Investigators are requesting anyone with information about a potential stalker, or unusual instances, to contact the tip line.”

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the tip line at 208-883-7180 or email tipline@ci.moscow.id.us.

Musk teases releasing details of Twitter censoring Hunter Biden’s laptop: ‘Necessary to restore public trust’

Twitter CEO Elon Musk teased on Wednesday that he might release more information on how the social media company censored the Hunter Biden laptop story during the 2020 presidential election.

News personality Alex Lorusso askied followers to “raise your hand” if they supported making “all internal discussions about the decision to censor the @NYPost’s story on Hunter Biden’s laptop” public.

Musk responded, “This is necessary to restore public trust.”

Many users agreed with Musk’s calll for transparency, with some replying with raised hand emojis.

‘AMERICANS WILL BE SHOCKED’: FORMER HUNTER BIDEN BUSINESS PARTNER LAUDS GOP PROBE INTO HUNTER BIDEN

One user even requested Musk to do another Twitter poll, referencing other polls he has done to help form the direction of Twitter.

David Freiheit who is referred to as Viva Frei called Musk’s response the “proper commitment to make on Thanksgiving.”

Musk has previously vocalized his concern over Twitter censoring the New York Post. In April, he called the action “incredibly inappropriate.”

When the New York Post’s bombshell report was first published before the 2020 elections, many social media companies were quick to remove posts about the story, including Twitter and Facebook. Former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey admitted the social media platform was wrong to intervene in the Hunter Biden story.

Twitter censored the story in which they claimed at the time violated the company’s “Hacked Materials Policy.”

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed earlier this year why Facebook suppressed the story during the election.

During an interview on “The Joe Rogan Experience,” Zuckerberg admitted the FBI approached Facebook warning the platform about “Russian propaganda” ahead of the bombshell Hunter Biden story. The platform manipulated algorithms to suppress the story from circulating, which Zuckerberg defended due to FBI warnings.

In addition to the censorship from Big Tech, multiple media outlets originally labeled the laptop as Russian disinformation. Dozens of former intelligence leaders and officials also signed a letter saying they believed the story was part of a Russian disinformation campaign.

Since then, many news outlets have independently verified the story.

CBS was the latest news organization in verifying the laptop story despite dismissing the New York Post’s original story. Nearly two years later, media outlets including The New York Times, Washington Post, NBC News and Politico have all confirmed the story.

With more pressure mounting on Big Tech and more liberal media outlets verifying the story, GOP lawmakers are calling for answers on the laptop as well as the censorship of the story. After taking control of the House, Republicans shared their intent to further investigate Hunter Biden’s business dealings and look specifically at how his father President Joe Biden may have been involved.

After nearly two years of suppression, new light is shining on the Hunter Biden story, and Twitter is once again proving to be a key player in finding answers.

Fox News’ Joseph A. Wulfsohn, Kelly Laco, Nick Givas and Brian Flood contributed to this report.

“Amnesty Begins Next Week”: Musk To Reinstate Suspended Twitter Accounts En Masse

Elon Musk has given politically divided families all the ammunition they need for an epic pie fight this Thanksgiving – announcing ‘general amnesty’ for suspended Twitter accounts as long as they haven’t broken the law or engaged in egregious spam.

On Wednesday, Musk asked in a poll whether Twitter should offer “general amnesty to suspended accounts,” to which 72.4% voted “Yes”.

“The people have spoken,” Musk tweeted Friday, adding “Amnesty begins next week.

“Vox Populi, Vox Dei,” he said in closing – a Latin phrase meaning “The voice of the People, the voice of God.”

Musk’s decision is sure to piss off even more advertisers, who have been pulling ad spending (as they underperform the market). Advertisers including Audi, General Mills, GM, United Airlines and Pfizer have all paused ads, leading to what Musk described as a “massive drop” in revenue.

And… it looks like he gives exactly zero f**ks. (Though what of one Alex E. Jones?)

Let the games begin!
