The Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (present day FYRM) was made up of land which in 1918 had fallen under Serb control. For a brief period during the Second World War the territory was taken over by Bulgaria and, to a much lesser extent, Italy, but afterwards was incorporated into Yugoslavia.
