Water service restored in Lower Saucon; boil water advisory remains

Water service in Lower Saucon Township was restored Sunday after a water main break affected it over the weekend.

Lower Saucon Authority said that while service has been restored, residents along Springtown Hill Road, Penrose Street and Pearson Avenue should continue to boil their water until additional testing is done.

The break, reported Sunday afternoon, led to a partial loss of water pressure, and the main feeding the area near Hellertown Park had been shut off. Groundwater contaminated with disease-causing organism might have been drawn to the water mains, according to the authority.

The authority noted that while pressure loss does not mean the organisms are present, there is an increased risk of that.

Residents in the affected areas should not drink the water without boiling it. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth and preparing food until further notice, the authority said. Boiling the water will kill the bacteria.

The water will be tested over the next two or three days, and the advisory will be lifted once the water is safe to drink.

The advisory does not apply to authority customers outside of Springtown Hill Road, Penrose Street and Pearson Avenue.
