Dolphins closing in on initial 53-man active roster with Tuesday cuts

After the news on several Miami Dolphins roster cuts came out Monday, the team continued to work toward formulated its initial 53-player active roster for the season ahead of Tuesday’s 4 p.m. deadline.

The Dolphins first made the splash news signing of cornerback Rasul Douglas Tuesday morning. As they got back to cuts, they released outside linebacker Quinton Bell, a core special teamer in 2024, according to ESPN.

Bell doesn’t make Miami’s initial 53 in 2025 as the team changed special teams coordinators, from Danny Crossman to Craig Aukerman. Bell played in all 17 games for the Dolphins in 2024, contributing 372 special teams snaps while also in on 257 defensive snaps and starting three games on the edge, notching a sack along the way.

Defensive snaps were going to be much harder to come by this season at outside linebacker, with Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb back from injury, Chop Robinson heading into his second season and the Dolphins adding veteran former Pro Bowl edge rusher Matthew Judon deep into training camp.

As for the special teams play, fellow outside linebacker Cameron Goode could be that piece on the unit.

Also at the position, the Dolphins waived Derrick McLendon and Grayson Murphy, according to various reports. Both young players had standout camps with their pass rush, and Murphy was also counted on for special teams snaps in the preseason.

Dickerson is an eighth-year veteran who spent the latter part of the 2024 season on the Dolphins’ active roster, up from the practice squad. He was brought back on the first day of free agency in March, but Miami also drafted three rookie defensive tackles in late April, all who have impressed in camp.

On Monday, the Dolphins had already made an array of cuts headlined by veteran cornerback Mike Hilton and tight end Pharaoh Brown. Other reported cuts included running backs Aaron Shampklin and Mike Boone, wide receiver AJ Henning, cornerback Ethan Robinson, offensive linemen Jackson Carman, Addison West, Jalen McKenzie and Mason Brooks, defensive lineman Ben Stille and tight end Chris Myarick.
