CT man convicted of violating protective order, sexually assaulting woman in CT motel

A man has been convicted of sexually assaulting a woman at a motel in Southington last year, violating a protective order that had been put in place barring any contact with her.

Jeremy Figueroa-Gerena, 35, of Enfield was found guilty by a jury on Monday in New Britain Superior Court, according to the state Division of Criminal Justice. He was convicted of four counts of violation of a protective order and a single count each of first-degree sexual assault, first-degree unlawful restraint and third-degree assault, officials said.

According to the DCJ, two pending cases against Figueroa-Gerena were tried as a joint case. Authorities allege he sexually assaulted a woman at a motel and, afterward, assaulted and restrained her in his vehicle while on the highway. At the time, a protective order barred him from having any contact with her, according to officials.

Figueroa-Gerena remains held on bonds totaling more than $480,000, according to court records. He is scheduled to face sentencing on Dec. 16.

In a statement issued Wednesday, the DCJ said State’s Attorney Christian Watson “recognizes that the cycle of violence in domestic violence cases is pervasive and hopes that this conviction is a significant step forward for the victim in her process of healing.”

“State’s Attorney Watson extends his gratitude to the Southington Police Department, Connecticut State Police, Troop H, the Hospital of Central Connecticut, and the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection’s Division of Scientific Services, and Victim Advocate Heather Major for their efforts in the investigation and prosecution of this case,” DCJ officials said.

Watson also thanked the prosecution team which included Assistant State’s Attorney Abby Marchinkoski, Supervisory Assistant State’s Attorney Helen McLellan, Inspector David Rohon, and Paralegal Specialist Margaret Olender.
