MIAMI GARDENS — It’s Year Two for Sun Sentinel Dolphins columnist Chris Perkins and Dolphins writer David Furones picking prop bets, which they’ll do for all 17 regular-season games, and this season promises to be more successful than last year.
On second thought, let’s not promise anything when it comes to wagering. Let’s just say this season hopes to be more successful than last season.
Prior to each game Furones and Perkins will select a “Best Bet” and a “Longshot.” The “Best Bet” selection is a near 50-50 proposition while the “Longshot” is at least +300 or a 3-to-1 probability.
They don’t place dollar amounts on their bets (neither wants to go broke) but you’re welcome to wager as much as you can afford.
Furones ended last year 11-6 on “Best Bets” while Perk was 9-8.
On the “Longshot,” Furones ended 5-12 while Perk was a regrettable 2-15.
Perkins and Furones use the Hard Rock Bet app for odds. Be sure to check the Sun Sentinel game predictions for Sunday’s outlook.
Perk’s Best Bet: Tyreek Hill anytime TD (+120)
I’m putting faith in Hill to do something a little unexpected, which would be score a touchdown considering all the offseason/training camp chatter about his injuries and relationship with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. I’m not certain Hill gets 100 yards receiving, but I’m thinking he finds a way to get into the end zone. After all, he remains the best player on the team.
Furones’ Best Bet: Ollie Gordon II to record 5+ Q1 rush yards (+105)
I think the rookie running back is a big part of the game plan as RB2 and with De’Von Achane’s workload possibly taking a hit due to precautions with his calf. I wouldn’t even rule out the possibility of him starting if coach Mike McDaniel wants to feature Gordon’s power first and then hit the Colts with Achane’s speed in spurts. I say he picks up a handful of yards early, possibly as part of an effective opening scripted drive.
Perk’s Longshot: Jordyn Brooks over 0.5 sacks (+600)
Brooks, the inside linebacker who led the Dolphins in tackles last season with 143, only had 3.0 sacks. But I trust Brooks, the Dolphins’ front seven and defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver to dial up special pressure on Colts QB Daniel Jones.
Furones’ Longshot: Malik Washington 40+ receiving yards (+300)
Darren Waller’s not playing. A lot of defensive attention will go toward stopping Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. Washington has developed strong chemistry with Tua Tagovailoa. Forty is still a big yardage output for him to reach, but at 3-to-1 odds, I like my chances.
