21-year-old driving go-kart on a Suffolk roadway dies from crash, police say

SUFFOLK — A Saturday night vehicle crash has claimed the life of a 21-year-old driving a go-kart which police said has hit by a SUV.

First responders were called to the site of the crash, which occurred near the 4900 block of Nansemond Parkway, at around 9:42 p.m. They found a SUV had crashed into the rear of a go-kart driving on the roadway.

The go-kart’s driver, Anton Smith of Chesapeake, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following the crash, officials closed off the roadway for a few hours. It was reopened by early Sunday morning.

No additional details were available. Police said as of Sunday the crash was still under investigation.
