Lehigh County to host burial service for 8 people whose remains are unclaimed by family

The Lehigh County Coroner’s Office is holding a burial service Monday for people whose remains were never claimed.

Coroner Daniel A. Buglio said the service, which is open to the public, will honor eight people, some of whom died more than 20 years ago. The service will be held at 10 a.m. at Cedar Heights Cemetery at 4431 S. South Cedarbook Road in Lower Macungie Township.

The county pays for cremations when remains are left unclaimed.

The following will people will be remembered:

Herbert Jackson, 57, date of death: March 14, 1988
Alfredo Rojas, 34, date of death: March 17, 1992
John Breidinger, 76,  date of death: Feb. 14, 2004
James Skies, 63 date of death: Oct. 19, 2016
Anne Nemchik, 75, date of death: Dec. 26, 2022
Stanley Taylor, 73, date of death: Oct.  3, 2023
Mark Vandalen,  70, date of death: Oct. 31, 2023
Teddy Yates, 62, date of death: Nov. 19, 2023

The coroner’s office in April released a list of 14 names of people whose remains were unclaimed in hopes of connecting with next of kin. Earlier this year, the office announced steps to help families who couldn’t otherwise afford funeral expenses, which is often a reason the remains are left behind.

Buglio said the public is welcome to attend and pay their respects as his office ensures they are laid to rest with dignity.
