NORFOLK — A landmark victory has led to a prominent honor for Old Dominion’s quarterback.
Redshirt sophomore Colton Joseph was named the Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Monarchs to Saturday’s 45-26 win at Virginia Tech, the league announced Monday.
A Newport Beach, California, native, Joseph completed 18 of 22 passes for 276 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 63 yards and a score.
Joseph led the Monarchs (2-1) on four consecutive touchdown drives to finish the first half, as ODU sprinted to a 31-0 lead over the Hokies.
Fourth-year Tech coach Brent Pry, whose team dropped to 0-3 with the loss, was fired Sunday.
ODU moved to 3-4 against the Hokies, with home wins in 2018 and 2022.
Southern Miss defensive back Ian Foster was named the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the week. Dalen Cobb, a Georgia Southern wide receiver, received special teams honors.
Liberty (1-2) visits the Monarchs, who have a bye this week, on Sept. 27.
