A Margate man was killed after driving a golf cart off of a dock and into a canal on Sunday, deputies say.
Just before 6 p.m., Luckinson Pierre, 40, was driving the golf cart north through the parking lot of a business near 2965 State Road 84 in Dania Beach, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office. He then drove through hedges and off of the dock, hitting a yacht before plunging into the canal.
Pierre was working as a security guard at the business. When a coworker arrived to take over for him, he could not find Pierre. BSO deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue received a call about a drowning and responded, locating a golf cart in the water. Divers then found Pierre. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Sheriff’s Office did not provide further information on how Pierre ended up driving off the dock.
“The investigation into the circumstances of the crash is ongoing,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
