Wrong-way driver pronounced dead in crash on DuSable Lake Shore Drive

A 53-year-old man was pronounced dead after a crash Tuesday night on DuSable Lake Shore Drive after police said he entered the roadway in the wrong direction.

Shortly after 8:30 p.m., the man was traveling north on DuSable Lake Shore Drive in the southbound lanes in the 4500 block of North DuSable Lake Shore Drive, Chicago police said. The wrong-way driver struck a black SUV, police said.

The sole occupant of the gray vehicle suffered severe head trauma and was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. A 68-year-old man who was the driver of the SUV was taken to the same hospital for evaluation and listed in good condition, police said.

The Major Accidents and Investigation Unit continues to investigate the crash, police said.
