A Hartford man is facing several charges after allegedly violating five protective orders during a domestic incident in Newington before attempting to flee from police.
Officers were dispatched to an undisclosed location in Newington on Saturday for a domestic dispute, according to the Newington Police Department.
It was alleged that Daniel Sampel, 25, forced entry into the residence by breaking the front door and then assaulted a woman, police said. According to police, there were five protective orders in place stating that Sampel was not allowed at the residence.
Police said the woman and two juveniles were located in the residence. The woman was able to call for help as Sampel fled the scene in a vehicle, according to police.
“All parties were known to each other, and this was not a random act,” police said.
Officers were able to locate the Sampel’s vehicle in Hartford and were able to deploy stop sticks that successfully puncturing the front passenger tire. According to police, Sampel allegedly refused to stop and led police in a pursuit through Hartford where his vehicle was eventually disabled.
Sampel was taken into custody and charged with five counts of violation of protective order, two counts of risk of injury to a child and one count each of home invasion, third-degree assault, third degree criminal mischief, second-degree threatening, second-degree reckless endangerment, operating a motor vehicle without a license, engaging police in pursuit and reckless driving. He was being held on a $200,000 bond and appeared in court on Monday, according to police.
“The Newington Police would like to thank the Connecticut State Police, Hartford Police and West Hartford Police for their assistance in this case,” the department said in a statement Tuesday.
