It’s Week 3 of high school football in Connecticut, and there are some interesting Alliance games on tap for this weekend. Hand-Brookfield is a matchup between two teams in the top eight of The Courant state coaches’ poll. Windsor, ranked No. 9, will get a test against Newtown, whose loss came to No. 1 New Canaan.
Here are some of the area games to watch this weekend:
Hand (2-0) at Brookfield (2-0), Friday, 6:30 p.m.:
This Alliance game pits two of the top 10 teams in The Courant’s state coaches’ poll: No. 4 Hand vs. No. 8 Brookfield. Hand returns 10 starters from its Class M semifinal team, and first-year quarterback, senior Bobby Reh, has already passed for 508 yards and four touchdowns in his first two games.
Newtown (1-1) at Windsor (2-0), Friday, 6:30 p.m.:
Windsor is ranked ninth in The Courant’s state coaches’ poll and this Alliance game will be a big test for the Warriors. Newtown’s loss was in its season opener, 30-10 to New Canaan, ranked No. 1 in the poll. Windsor, last year’s Class MM runner-up, has wins over Torrington and South Windsor.
Newington (2-0) at Enfield (2-0), Friday, 6 p.m.:
These two unbeaten CCC interdivisional teams will square off Friday. Newington has wins over Tolland and Bristol Central; Enfield has beaten Farmington and Simsbury. Newington senior Josiah Sims has rushed for 273 yards and four touchdowns in the first two games and the Nor’easters’ defense, led by Heath Weeden (31 tackles), pitched a shutout last week against Tolland. Enfield junior quarterback Sawyer Pequita has rushed for 288 yards and four touchdowns and passed for 307 yards and two TDs.

Glastonbury (1-1) at Danbury (1-1), Friday, 7 p.m.:
Glastonbury will try to ride the momentum from its big overtime win over Southington last week, but Danbury could be tough, especially after being shut out last week by St. Joseph, 41-0. Dante Casdia leads the way for the Guardians with 238 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
Haddam-Killingworth (2-0) at Weaver/Hartford Public/Classical (0-1), at Weaver, Friday, 6:30 p.m.:
Weaver made a long trip to North Branford in Week 1 and lost 21-20 and had a bye week last week to figure out what went wrong and how to fix it. H-K has outscored its opponents 42-0 in its first two games.
Branford (2-0) at East Catholic (1-1), Saturday, noon at Cheney Tech:
East Catholic got back on track last week after an opening loss to Woodland with a 35-21 win over Bristol Eastern as Joey Montalvo reached the 3,000 receiving yards milestone for the Eagles. Rhamell Fairclough has rushed for 378 yards in two games for Branford.
