Breeze Airways adds another destination ahead of its Fort Lauderdale debut

Discount carrier Breeze Airways, which is roughly six weeks away from starting service at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, is already adding another city to its Broward County roster.

The new destination: Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Effective Jan. 16, the airline’s nonstop flights would operate Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. One-way fares start at $59.

The add-on comes after Breeze previously announced it would start serving Akron-Canton, Ohio, and Wilmington, N.C., from Fort Lauderdale on Nov. 5.

“It’s always a good day when a new airline announces more service even before it officially makes its debut here,” Mark Gale, the airport’s CEO/Director of Aviation, said in a joint statement with the airline.

“Expanding our offering from Fort Lauderdale prior to launch is a sign of the great demand we have seen for our product in South Florida,” said David Neeleman, the airline’s founder and CEO.

Breeze says its principal mission is to connect passengers “in underserved cities directly to desirable destinations nationwide, reducing unnecessary travel time and making air travel more accessible to millions of travelers coast to coast.”

Small city destinations

As with other discount and legacy carriers, Breeze management has targeted Florida as a prime market. The Utah-based discounter focuses on linking travelers to smaller markets around the United States.

In July, for example, Breeze announced nonstop flights from Orlando International Airport to Lincoln, Neb., and Tri-Cities, Tenn., beginning in December.

Other Florida cities listed on its website include: Daytona Beach, Fort Myers, Jacksonville, Key West, Pensacola, Sarasota/ Bradenton, Tampa, Vero Beach and West Palm Beach.

Founded in 2021, Breeze serves more than 70 U.S. cities and operates a fleet of nearly 60 Airbus and Embraer jet aircraft, including a new fleet of Airbus A220-300s. It offers “free family seating, fast onboard Wi-Fi, preferred seat options, and no change and cancel fees.”
