A grocery store known for its prices is opening its doors October 1 at 8 a.m. in its newest Connecticut location.
The Price Rite Marketplace opening of the 34,000-square-foot supermarket is in Waterbury at 881 Wolcott St., in the Waterbury Shopping Center.
A full day of festivities are planned for the Waterbury store, including a ribbon cutting ceremony, vendor sampling, a DJ, photo opportunities and gift card giveaways, according to the company.

“We can’t wait to open our doors and welcome the Waterbury community to our store,” said Kevin McDonnell, president of Price Rite Marketplace.
“This store represents our ongoing commitment to making fresh, affordable food accessible to more families — with thousands of everyday low prices. We’re excited to celebrate this next chapter with our new customers and team members.”
Store officials said Price Rite of Waterbury will provide “a diverse selection of authentic foods and flavors that cater to the local community’s needs.
Waterbury has seen departures of businesses from its mall, but officials have said they see growth in other areas and believe that people are looking at Waterbury as a great investment opportunity.
“The retail landscape has changed, and the mall is a little less than half full,” Waterbury Mayor Paul Pernerewski has said. “I think eventually, you will see it repurposed into something else. The model of indoor stores doesn’t seem to be viable at this point.
The Price Rite grocery store is moved into the former Ollie’s Bargain Outlet.
Pernerewski has said more than 400 apartments are currently being constructed downtown and many others are in various stages of planning for more in different parts of the immediate area.
“In the very near future, we are on track to have 416 brand new apartment units coming online downtown which is going to help drive that retail space as well. I think a lot of people are seeing Waterbury as a really good investment, and the city coming back. We are making a lot of progress. People are looking to get in now while it’s a good time to get in,” Pernerewski has said.
