Two men dead and another charged with DUI after rollover crash on Route 5/15 in Wethersfield

A Massachusetts driver was charged with DUI after a rollover crash Route 5/15 in Wethersfield on Friday night resulted in the death of his two passengers.

Troopers responded to single-vehicle crash on Route 5/15 North in Wethersfield around 11:55 p.m. on Friday, according to the Connecticut State Police.

Troopers learned that an Infiniti G37 was traveling on Route 5/15 North in the area of Exit 85 in Wethersfield when the vehicle veered from the left lane and collided with the metal beam guard rail off the right shoulder, state police said. The Infiniti then rolled over and went down the embankment.

According to state police, the two passengers in the Infiniti, identified as 25-year-old Joshua Gonzalez of Springfield, Massachusetts and 21-year-old Edwin Guzman of Chicopee, Massachusetts, suffered life-threatening injuries and were transported to Hartford Hospital, where they were both pronounced dead.

The driver, later identified as 22-year-old Alexis Garcia from Springfield, Massachusetts, had suspected minor injuries and allegedly refused medical attention, state police said.

During the investigation, troopers alleged that Garcia appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. According to state police, a standardized field sobriety test was given, which he allegedly failed.

Garcia was arrested and transported to Troop H in Hartford where he was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. He was unable to post the $250,000 cash/surety bond and was given a court date of Oct. 6 in New Britain.
