Teens charged after report of armed person prompts lockdowns at 2 Allentown schools

Two teens have been charged with making threats Tuesday after lockdowns at two Allentown schools.

City police responded to the 1600 block of Court Street, between North 16th and North 17th streets, around 1 p.m. for a report of an armed person, according to a news release from Capt. Christopher Diehl.

Following safety protocols, the Allentown School District initiated “lockdown procedures” at two nearby schools — Allen High School and Raub Middle School, Diehl said.

Police located two boys — ages 14 and 15 — who are charged with making terroristic threats and assault by physical menace, according to Diehl. Police did not name the boys, who are juveniles.

Diehl said there is no danger to the public. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

The lockdowns follow several recent bomb threats made against district schools, including one Sept. 29 that prompted early dismissal at Allen High School. Two notes were found in the school indicating a bomb was set to detonate. No explosive material was found and the building was cleared, police said.

In a news release later that day, police said they had not yet identified who was behind that threat. A similar threat was made against the school Sept. 17.

Earlier in the month, two bomb threats were made against Trexler Middle School. A student was charged in each of those incidents.
