Dylan Boyle has competed in four races for the Thomas Jefferson men’s cross country team this fall, and all four efforts earned him Rookie of the Week honors in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.
The freshman from Bethlehem and a Freedom High graduate earned his latest award when he finished fifth out of 324 entrants in the 8,000-meter Green Race at the Paul Short Run on Oct. 3 in front of friends and family in Bethlehem. His time was 25:46.9.
Boyle began his college career with the Rams by finishing second at the Philly Cross Classic on Sept. 6. He had an 8,000-meter time of 27:39.2 and was beaten by a senior. In his second race, he finished fourth at the Kutztown DII-DIII Challenge on Sept. 13 with an 8k time of 26.21.0. He was the first freshman and second Division III runner to cross the line.
At the Osprey Open on Sept. 20 in Galloway, N.J., Boyle had his best time at that distance when he finished 12th out of 164 runners in 25:41.3. He was the second freshman finisher. He was also named CACC Runner of the Week for his performance.
Ty Tremba – Franklin & Marshall football (Parkland)
The senior quarterback had a big day for the Diplomats in a 28-27 victory over 24th-ranked Muhlenberg last Saturday in Lancaster. Tremba, 6-0, 205 pounds, completed 24 of 32 passes for 270 yards with touchdown passes of 34, 33, 24 and 4 yards. He also carried the ball 14 times for 54 yards. On the season, Tremba has connected on 93 of 142 passes for 1,169 yards with 16 touchdowns, and rushed 42 times for 174 yards to help Franklin & Marshall post a 4-1 overall record with a 2-0 mark in the Centennial Conference.
Jenna Duke – Mansfield field hockey (Stroudsburg)
The redshirt sophomore is the top scorer for the Mounties, who are 5-7 overall and 1-3 in the PSAC after a tough 2-1 loss at No. 8-ranked Millersville last Saturday. Duke had the assist on the only goal. She has 26 points with 11 goals and four assists. She scored three goals in a 5-3 victory over Frostburg on Oct. 4 and had three goals in a 6-0 triumph over Southern Connecticut on Sept. 7. Jenna’s sister, senior Amanda, has started all 12 games and has scored two goals.
Matt Zerfass – Villanova men’s golf (Emmaus)
The senior finished tied for third out of 84 golfers to lead the Wildcats to a fifth place finish out of 15 teams at the UConn Invitational Sept. 28-30 in Hampden, Mass. Zerfass finished with a 54-hole total of 213 on rounds of 73 and a pair of 70s. The total was three-under par on the par 72 course. He totaled 11 birdies during the tourney and had four of them with just two bogies in his final round to move him up six spots in the standings.
Sara Furey – Eastern women’s volleyball (Parkland)
The freshman has helped the Eagles start 13-5 overall and 2-1 in MAC Commonwealth play after a 3-0 victory over Alvernia on Oct. 8 in Reading. The 5-foot-7 senior has a team-leading 345 assists to go along with 104 digs, 23 service aces and 10 kills. Furay opened the season with a double-double on 14 assists and 11 digs in a 2-0 triumph over Rutgers-Camden to open the season. Her best efforts in assists are 31 (five sets), 25 (four sets) and 20 (three sets).
Mary Jane Cadman – Franciscan (Ohio) women’s volleyball (Central Catholic)
The graduate student, a 5-foot-10 outside hitter, had 13 kills and 13 digs but the Barons came out on the short end of a 3-1 decision at Hiram last Saturday that dropped the team’s record to 7-9 overall and 3-5 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference. Cadman has 149 kills and 75 digs with a .237 hitting percentage. She had a season-high 21 kills in a 3-2 victory over Geneva and 15 digs in a 3-1 loss Chatham.
Ivory MoDavis – Penn State Altoona women’s soccer (Southern Lehigh)
The 5-foot-3 freshman scored the game-winning goal early in the second half to help the Lions top Pitt-Bradford 2-0 in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference game last Saturday in Altoona. MoDavis has another goal, and it was a game winner in a 3-0 triumph over Cedar Crest on Aug. 30 also in Altoona. The team is 4-4-4 overall and 1-1-2 in AMCC play and has given up 12 goals and five shutouts.
Lydia Keppel – Wilkes field hockey (Whitehall)
The freshman forward/midfielder has played in all 14 games with 13 starts for the Colonels who are 8-6 overall and 3-1 in the Landmark Conference after a 3-2 conference victory over Catholic last Saturday in Wilkes-Barre. Keppel had an assist on the team’s second goal. It was her fifth assist of the season. She picked up her first collegiate goal in a 2-0 non-conference victory over Alfred on Sept. 3 and had a goal and an assist in a 4-0 win over rival King’s on Sept. 10.
Luke Shimko – Widener football (Central Catholic)
The 5-foot-11, 205-pound sophomore linebacker is the leading tackle for the Pride, which stands 2-3 overall and 1-3 in the Middle Atlantic Conference after a 20-17 overtime victory over FDU-Florham last Saturday in a homecoming game in Chester. Shimko had 11 tackles. He has 39 tackles, 23 unassisted, and had a team-high 10 tackles in a 19-3 conference loss to Stevenson on Sept. 15.
Lex Williams – Chestnut Hill sprint football (Quakertown)
The senior linebacker leads the Griffins with 34 tackles including 20 unassisted. He had seven tackles in a 41-7 victory over Molloy last Saturday at Chestnut Hill moved to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the Collegiate Sprint Football Conference. Williams had a season-high 10 tackles in a 42-35 triumph at Caldwell on Sept 27. In 25 career games he has 187 tackles, 106 solos, with 18 for losses, three forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and a blocked kick.
Liv Grenda – Dayton (Ohio) women’s soccer (Pennridge)
The sophomore midfielder has started all 14 games for the Flyers who are 9-3-2 overall and tied for first place in the Atlantic 10 Conference at 6-0 after a 4-1 conference victory over St. Joseph’s last Saturday. Grenda had the team’s third goal. That gives her three goals and two assists on the season and both goals were game-winners – in a 2-0 season-opening victory over Wright State and a 2-0 triumph over Duquesne on Sept. 18.
