Meet these adoptable pets at the Regional Animal Shelter in King William

Every week we showcase two pets who are available for adoption at the Regional Animal Shelter in King William County. Here are two who would love to find their forever homes:

Big Country is a lovable goofball who’s just learning what it means to be a family dog. He spent most of his life outdoors, so new experiences can be a little overwhelming, but his love for people and treats is shining through! He’s still figuring out the leash, but his excitement for attention and cuddles more than makes up for it. With patience, training and plenty of snacks, Big Country is sure to grow into the loyal, affectionate companion he was always meant to be.

When Maize first arrived, the world felt like a pretty scary place. She was shy and unsure, preferring to quietly observe from the sidelines. But with time, patience and a whole lot of love, this special girl has blossomed right before our eyes. Today, Maize is a playful, bouncy and delightfully sassy pup who loves to let her personality shine. She’s discovered the joy of zoomies, the thrill of toys and the magic of ear rubs. Once she feels safe with you, her silly side comes out in full force, and it’s impossible not to fall in love. Maize would thrive in a home that can give her a little time to settle in and a lot of room to be her goofy, confident self. She’s proof that with patience, the shyest souls can become the brightest stars.

If you have lost or found a pet, please contact the Regional Animal Shelter to make a report. Call 804-769-4983 or email animalshelter@kingwilliamcounty.us.

The shelter has established a pet food pantry to help pet-owning residents of King William and King & Queen counties. This program is designed to help owners who have been affected by financial loss. It is not intended to be a long-term or permanent solution for feeding pets, and no application is required. To discuss the type of food you need, call 804-769-4983.

Donations of fish oil capsules, dry and wet dog and cat food, medium and large hard chew toys for dogs, soft dog treats, and rubber backed rugs and mats are needed. The mats are used to keep dog and cat bedding from slipping around and to provide extra comfort for the animals. Donations can be shipped to 20201 King William Road, King William, VA 23086, or dropped off during visiting hours.

The shelter also is in need of items to help care for pets. Any type of laundry detergent and bleach will help keep our animals’ bedding fresh and clean. The shelter also needs paper towels for continual cleanup.
