UConn’s Silas Demary Jr. was one of 20 players named to the preseason watch list for the Bob Cousy Award, given annually to the top point guard in college basketball.
The 6-foot-4 Georgia transfer from Raleigh, N.C., was the No. 1 priority in the portal for coach Dan Hurley and his staff this offseason as they looked to shore up the backcourt ahead of this season.
Demary, named Preseason Second Team All-Big East at Media Day last week, averaged 13.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 31.5 minutes per game in his sophomore year at Georgia, starting in all 33 games. He saw his 3-point percentage rise to 37.4% and shot 80.4% from the foul line.
The Cousy Award is part of the Naismith Starting Five, which includes the Jerry West Award (shooting guards), Julius Erving Award (small forwards), Karl Malone Award (power forwards) and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award (centers).
Three former Huskies have won the Cousy Award in the past, with Tristen Newton being the most recent winner in 2024, joining Kemba Walker (2011) and Shabazz Napier (2014).
