CHESAPEAKE — It was senior night at Indian River on Thursday, but it was a couple of King’s Fork seniors who stole the show as wide receiver Zy’Dar’Eyus Wynn and quarterback D’andre Artis-Boone helped the sixth-ranked Warriors upset the No. 4 Braves 21-14 in a Southeastern District showdown.
Wynn got things started early when he took the opening kickoff 85 yards on a sloppy and muddy field for a touchdown.

“I saw my front doing their job, and they opened a hole for me,” Wynn said about the touchdown run. “We’ve been practicing that all week, and we made it happen.”
But the Bulldogs wouldn’t score again until the fourth quarter.
Indian River, led by fabulous freshman Lord Malik Heru, would score as Heru scrambled to his right and then threw a 82-yard touchdown pass to a wide-open Ryan Robinson to cut the deficit to 7-6. But the Braves missed the extra point.
The game would stay that way until past halftime.
Indian River (7-2) scored again in the third quarter, thanks to a muffed punt that gave the Braves the ball deep inside King’s Fork territory. Four plays later, running back Arnell Pugh scored on a 6-yard touchdown run. The Braves succeeded on the two-point conversion to make it 14-7.

King’s Fork ended its scoring drought in the fourth quarter on Isiah Gilliam’s 18-yard run that helped tie the game at 14.
The Bulldogs (8-1) weren’t done as they put together another drive with less than nine minutes left in the game.
On fourth-and-1 from the Indian River 9, King’s Fork coach Anthony Joffrion put the game in the hands of his seniors, and they delivered as Artis-Boone hit Wynn in the end zone for a touchdown.

“You have coaches who have different plays, but for me, I just thought of players,” Joffrion said. “I’ve known Zy’Dar’Eyus Wynn since he was in the eighth grade, and I’ve seen everything he’s gone through to get to this point. So for me, it was an easy play call. Give the ball to my quarterback, who has been a part of the program since eighth grade, and let them throw it to another one.”
Wynn is glad Joffrion did.
“It was a great call,” he said. “He trusted us so we could make the play.”
