Police have charged a man in connection with a fatal crash in September in Ansonia.
Isac Saravia, 26, of Ansonia was arrested Wednesday of charges of first-degree reckless endangerment and reckless driving, according to Lt. Patrick Lynch of the Ansonia Police Department.
Lynch said the charges stem from a crash on Sept. 24 on Pershing Drive that left 27-year-old Adonis Lapuppet-Bligen dead.
Investigators believe Saravia was “following closely behind” Lapuppet-Bligen’s vehicle just before the crash when Lapuppet-Bligen struck a telephone pole, Lynch said. No one else was in the vehicle with Lapuppet-Bligen.
According to Lynch, police worked with the Fairfield Police Department’s Accident Reconstruction Unit and learned that both men were allegedly going about 80 mph just prior to the crash.
“The investigation was unable to establish probable cause that the cars were racing,” Lynch said in a statement.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner found that Lapuppet-Bligen died of blunt force trauma. The death was ruled an accident.
According to Lynch, a toxicology report showed that Lapuppet-Bligen’s blood alcohol content was allegedly 0.089. The legal limit to drive in Connecticut is 0.08.
Saravia is free on a $75,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Derby Superior Court on Nov. 12.
“Chief (Wayne) Williams would like to thank the Connecticut State Police, Derby Police Department, Fairfield Police Department, Ansonia Fire Department and Ansonia Public Works for their assistance in the investigation,” Lynch said in a statement. “He also commends the Ansonia Police Department’s Detective Bureau and Patrol Division for their work in investigating the incident.”
