Michael Feggans wins House District 97, defeating challenger Tim Anderson

Incumbent Michael Feggans, 42, won the House District 97 seat by more than 4,000 votes.

Feggans, a Democrat, has held the seat since he was first elected in 2023. He faced a challenge from Tim Anderson, a Republican and former state delegate who previously represented House District 83 from 2021 to 2023 and moved to the 97th District to run. The district includes central Virginia Beach. Preliminary voting totals on Tuesday night showed Feggans with 57% of the vote.

“In my first term, I got straight to work — passing legislation to support our servicemembers and military families, expand access to equitable housing for Virginians with disabilities and address the coastal challenges facing our city,” Feggans said in a statement. “As I begin this next term, I’m ready to hit the ground running — strengthening public safety, expanding opportunity and improving the quality of life for every Virginian.”

Feggans said his top priority is to address the pressing affordability needs of the Virginia Beach community, including housing and prescription drug costs.
