6 Central Florida restaurants shut down last week

Six Central Florida restaurants shut down the week of Oct. 26-Nov. 1, according to data from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

Brevard

Ako Sushi and Seafood at 725 N. Washington Ave. in Titusville shut down on Oct. 29. Inspectors found 23 violations, six of which were high priorities. Those violations included an employee touching food with their bare hands as well as roach and rodent activity. A second inspection occurred on Oct. 30. Inspectors found seven violations, but none was a high priority. The restaurant met inspection standards.

Orange

Chi Kin at 813 N. Mills Ave. in Orlando shut down on Oct. 27. Inspectors found 11 violations, only one of which was a high-priority violation for flying insects. A second inspection occurred on Oct. 28. Inspectors found four violations, but none was a high priority. The restaurant met inspection standards.

Tako Cheena at 948 N. Mills Ave. in Orlando shut down on Oct 28. Inspectors found 10 violations, only one of which was a high priority, for 133 roaches found in various parts of the restaurant. Inspectors returned on Oct. 30 and found six violations, but none was a high priority. The restaurant required a follow-up inspection but was not an immediate threat to the public.

The restaurant also received an administrative complaint on Oct. 30 when inspectors found the establishment had placed a metal garbage can to cover up the emergency closure sign that was posted on the service window and also had a bench in place so that customers could not approach the window.

Love Birds Jerk Spot at 6311 Silver Star Road, Suite 20, in Orlando, shut down on Oct. 29. Inspectors found 14 violations, three of which were high priorities. Those violations included roach activity and food held at the wrong temperatures. A second inspection occurred on Oct. 30. There were no violations. The restaurant met inspection standards.

Seminole

Sai Gon Flavors at 3573 Aloma Ave., Suite 1017, in Oviedo shut down on Oct. 31. Inspectors found two violations, one of which was a high priority for roach activity. A second inspection occurred on Nov. 1. There were no violations. The restaurant met inspection standards.

Volusia

Sicily Pizza at 20 S. Atlantic Ave., Suite B, in Daytona Beach shut down on Oct. 27. Inspectors found 16 violations, seven of which were high priorities. Those violations included an employee touching a soiled surface before engaging in food preparation, roach activity, a stop-sale issued on food due to temperature abuse and an improperly stored toxic substance. A second inspection occurred on Oct. 28. Inspectors found 13 violations, five of which were high priorities. The restaurant remained closed. A third, and final, inspection took place on Oct. 29. There were four violations, but none was a high priority. The restaurant met inspection standards.

Total Inspections

Among all inspections across Central Florida, there were 3,689 violations total, including basic, intermediate and high violations.

Orange County had the most with 1,662, followed by Brevard with 543, Volusia with 509, Seminole with 405, Lake with 294 and Osceola with 276.
