Notre Dame-Green Pond dominates Tamaqua to advance to 3A finals

Notre Dame-Green Pond jumped ahead early in the District 11 Class 3A semifinal at Lafayette College as Faustie Capobianco powered in from a yard out for the opening touchdown.

Tamaqua briefly took an 8-7 lead after Malachi Stewart answered with a 1-yard run and a two-point conversion, but Notre Dame quickly took control. Matt Bodnar hit Alex Clark for a 68-yard touchdown to put Notre Dame up 15-8. Then Tommy Murphy sprinted 43 yards for a score late in the first quarter to make it 22-8. Jonathan Striba added a six-yard touchdown early in the second. Capobianco found the end zone again, this time from seven yards out, extending the advantage to 35-8 before halftime.

Tamaqua’s Terrence McDowell scored from a yard out just before the break to make it 35-16, but Notre Dame dominated the second half. Capobianco’s short run pushed the lead to 42-16, and the Crusaders tacked on a 22-yard field goal and a 23-yard touchdown catch by Cody Driscoll in the fourth quarter made it 52-16. Striba capped off the night with a 62-yard touchdown run as Notre Dame rolled into the next round of the postseason with a 59-16 win.

The Crusaders moved to 12-0 on the year and will take on a fellow 12-0 Colonial League team in Northwestern Lehigh in the 3A final.
