King’s Fork’s victory over Suffolk rival Nansemond River in Friday’s regular-season finale propelled the Bulldogs to a No. 1 seed in the Class 5 Region B football playoffs.
King’s Fork (9-1) finished with a power rating of 32.3 to edge two-time defending Class 5 state champion Maury (9-1, 32.1).
Other top seeds in the Virginia High School League region football playoffs involving local teams include: Oscar Smith (Class 6 Region A), Green Run (Class 5 Region A), Hampton (Class 4 Region A) and Lake Taylor (Class 3 Region A).
Cox (8-2) climbed to No. 2 in Class 5 Region A after beating Kempsville on Friday for the Falcons’ sixth consecutive victory.
In Class 2, Armstrong (28.8) edged Poquoson (28.2) for the No. 1 seed.
