Teen arrested at CT high school football game as police investigate stolen vehicle

A 16-year-old from Hamden was arrested on Friday during a Southington High School football game as police were investigating a vehicle of interest parked in the school parking lot.

Members of the Southington Police Department‘s Detective Division and Special Investigation Unit were working “a proactive detail” with patrol officers around 7:30 p.m. on Friday when a vehicle of interest was located in the Southington High School parking lot, according to police. The parking lot was congested as there was a high school football game underway at the time, police said.

According to police,  the vehicle, a black 2024 BMW X6, was reported stolen in Orange in late last month.

According to police, officers detained several people in the area of the suspect vehicle. One of the individuals who was detained was allegedly found to be in possession of the vehicle’s ignition key fob. The individual, identified as a 16-year-old from Hamden, was taken into custody.

The juvenile was processed on charges of theft of a motor vehicle and first-degree larceny and was released to a legal guardian. The teen was scheduled to appear at New Haven Juvenile Court on Monday.
