I was thrilled to read the article in this Sunday’s Hartford Courant titled “Connecticut corporations banding together in new and big way. Sights are on local economic development.”

And I was equally dismayed to read Mayor Arunan Arulampalam’s response that he wanted to “ensure this process is inclusive and reflects the hopes of everyone in the community.”

The corporations banding together to revitalize Hartford are only going to have so much money. If the mayor fights to make sure every neighborhood and every special interest gets some of that money, the initiative will be rendered ineffective.

Play the long game, Mayor Arulampalam, and help this corporate group succeed in attracting more businesses to Hartford. If they are successful, you will have more tax revenues for the initiatives that are important to you. You will also pull in more money from surrounding towns as residents come to Hartford and support small businesses and restaurants.

I know it is hard for you to envision a Hartford like it was 40-50 years ago, you were not even born yet. But trust me, the best response you can have is “tell me how I can help, I am part of the team.”
