CT man dies after vehicle veers off Route 15, strikes tree in Hamden

A man has died after his vehicle veered off the roadway and struck a tree on Route 15 in Hamden early Monday.

Troopers from Troop I in Bethany were dispatched to the area of Route 15 North just north of Exit 46 in Hamden around 2:18 a.m. on Monday for a reported one-car motor vehicle collision, according to the Connecticut State Police.

A preliminary investigation determined that a Toyota Camry was traveling northbound in the right lane when the driver lost control, veered off the roadway to the right and struck a tree, state police said.

According to state police, the driver, identified as 24-year-old Luis Fernando Rodas-Pech of Hamden, was suffering from life-threatening injuries and transported to Yale New Haven Hospital via AMR Ambulance where he was later pronounced dead.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the collision or has a vehicle equipped with a dashboard camera that was driving through the area at the time of the collision is asked to contact Trooper Patrick Miko at Troop I at 203-393-4200 or by e-mail at Patrick.Miko@ct.gov.
