Ole Miss lost to Miami in the Fiesta Bowl, but the Rebels were able to poach one of the Hurricanes’ assistant coaches.
Miami tight ends coach Cody Woodiel is leaving UM to become the tight ends coach and co-offensive coordinator at Ole Miss, according to CBS Sports.
Woodiel has been a long-time member of Miami coach Mario Cristobal’s staff. Woodiel has been the Hurricanes’ tight ends coach since 2023. Prior to that, he was an analyst on Cristobal’s 2022 coaching staff. Before coming to Miami, Woodiel worked under Cristobal as a graduate assistant from 2017-20 at Oregon.
Woodiel worked with current NFL tight end Elijah Arroyo during his UM tenure. Arroyo had 35 catches for 590 and seven touchdowns in his final season at Miami, earning All-ACC second-team honors. The Seahawks drafted Arroyo in the second round of last year’s NFL draft.
This year, Miami tight ends combined for 45 catches for 445 yards and four touchdowns.
The Hurricanes have recruited tight ends well since Woodiel took over the position group. The Hurricanes signed four-star Elija Lofton in the 2024 class, four-stars Brock Schott (who transferred to Indiana) and Luka Gilbert in the 2025 class and four-stars Gavin Mueller and Israel Briggs in the 2026 class.
