AccuWeather: Frigid temperatures and snow on the horizon for CT. What to know.

A winter storm is coming, according to AccuWeather.

Connecticut residents can expect frigid temperatures to begin Friday night, dipping to as low as one degree with wind gusts as high as 27 mph, according to AccuWeather, and a RealFeel® of -9 degrees.

The Arctic front moving into Connecticut late Friday is bringing “dangerously cold wind chills” into Saturday night, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures aren’t expected to be much better come Saturday, with a high of 12 degrees and breezy conditions, according to AccuWeather. By night, temperatures will drop to a low of 8 degrees with snowfall kicking off.

Snow begins in earnest Sunday, according to AccuWeather, with around three and a half inches expected. Temperatures are expected to reach a high of 18 with wind gusts as high as 15 mph.

Major metro areas in the path of the storm include Dallas, Austin, Oklahoma City, Nashville, Atlanta, Charlotte, Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York City and Boston, according to Accuweather.

Snow continues into Sunday night with another two inches expected as temperatures drop to a low of 14 and a RealFeel® of -5.

Snow continues into Monday, with another 2 inches predicted, according to AccuWeather. Temperatures are expected to reach a high of 26 before dipping to a low of 7 degrees overnight.

The National Weather Service notes “a significant winter storm may bring heavy snow to southern
New England Sunday into Monday,” but that specific details remain uncertain.

In a “Hazardous Weather Outlook” for southern Connecticut, northeast New Jersey and southeast New York, the service reported Wednesday that “confidence is increasing in the potential for a significant winter storm to impact the area Sunday into Monday with accumulating snowfall.”

The National Weather Service also reports that for Monday, the chance of precipitation is 60% in Greater Hartford.
