NEWPORT NEWS — A man was shot and killed Friday night, and another has been charged in the shooting.

Just after 10:45 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 0 block of Bellows Way for a shooting. That’s in the Kiln Creek neighborhood, just off Brick Kiln Boulevard and near the Newport News Williamsburg Airport.

When officers arrived, they found 20-year-old Emmanuel Jackson, of St. Robert, Missouri, with a gunshot wound inside a building, according to a release. Jackson was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries, police said.

Jaylen Ellis, a Newport News man, was taken into custody and charged with involuntary manslaughter and discharging a firearm in a building or dwelling, police said.

Police said Jackson and Ellis were known to each other.

Police are not looking for more suspects and said the investigation is ongoing.

No other information has been released.
