One person hospitalized after fire destroys home in Tolland

One person was taken to the hospital following a fire that destroyed a home in Tolland on Tuesday night.

Fire crews with the Tolland Fire Department responded to a report of the blaze at a house on Bonair Hill Road just after 11:30 p.m. and found that the single-family home was fully involved in fire, according to Town Manager Brian Foley.

Foley said several occupants of the home had gotten out safely and were seeking shelter with a neighbor. A man who was found in “serious medical distress” outside the home was taken in an ambulance to Rockville Hospital, Foley said. The nature of his medical emergency and his condition were not immediately clear.

According to Foley, the home was destroyed despite the best efforts of firefighters.

The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced family.

Foley said the cause of the fire is being investigated by the local and state fire marshal.
