No offense: Admirals drop series with shutout loss to Allen in Texas

The Norfolk Admirals ended their trip to Texas in frustration, falling 4-0 to Allen before 5,202 Saturday night as their odds of gaining their third consecutive ECHL playoff berth continue to shrink.

Goalie Marco Costantini, a 23-year-old from Ontario who was named the night’s No. 1 star, earned a shutout with 31 saves, giving the Americans (24-16-4-0) two victories in the three-game series. His teammates gave him a good cushion in the first period, beating goalie Isaac Poulter three times.

Quinn Warmuth scored 3:17 into the game, Colby McAuley netted a power-play goal at 11:47, and Dallas native Colton Hargrove followed Friday’s hat trick with a goal at 17:57.

Norfolk coach Jeff Carr pulled Poulter for an extra attacker late in the game, but Hank Crone put a puck in the empty net with 2:25 remaining on an assist from fellow former Admiral Danny Katic.

The Admirals (16-24-2-0), who are 15 points out of a playoff berth with 30 games remaining, next will play a three-game series Friday through Sunday against the Greensboro Gargoyles, with the first game in North Carolina and the latter two at Scope.
