Violett Clonch led Kempsville to capture the Class 5 Region A/B gymnastics meet championship Saturday, scoring 148.8 points in Virginia Beach.
Homestanding Kellam (146.925) earned the right to join the Chiefs in the state team finals Feb. 20 at Kellam.
Ocean Lakes (142.7), First Colonial (142.25), Cox (138.425), Great Bridge (133.05) and Hickory (126.575) finished third through seventh.
Not only did Clonch take the all-around championship, she also won three of the four individual events. She posted a 38.625 all-around total, followed by Kellam’s Avery Handlon (38.25), First Colonial’s Chilara Meechan (37.325) and Grace Wallace (37.25).
Clonch won on the vault (9.725), bars (9.75) and balance beam (9.575). Handlon and teammate Clare Welch shared the floor exercise title at 9.575, while Clonch was third at 9.425.
The top eight gymnasts in each event will advance to the individual finals Feb. 21 at Kellam.
