ODU women fall to Coastal Carolina, CNU and VWU men win

Tessa Grady scored 22 points and Coastal Carolina limited Old Dominion to 3-of-21 shooting from beyond the arc in the Chanticleers’ 69-62 Sun Belt women’s basketball victory Wednesday at Chartway Arena.

The Monarchs (15-11, 6-7) had won two straight and three of four, but couldn’t find their touch. They shot 33% from the field.

Simaru Fields led ODU with 14 points and En’Dya Buford added 12, but went 2 of 14 from the field.

Kinsea Grimes added 11 points and Tateyoina Harris had nine points and 16 rebounds for Coastal Carolina (12-14, 5-8), which snapped a three-game skid.

The Chanticleers took control with a 20-9 advantage in the second quarter to lead 33-25 at the half.

Christopher Newport 71, Salisbury 53: McKenna Snively scored 30 points, going 8 of 9 from 3-point range, as the Captains avenged their lone loss in 2026 with a rout on the road.

CNU (18-4) has won three straight since a 71-67 overtime loss to Salisbury at home on Jan. 17.Madison McKenzie added 14 points for the Captains, who went 13 of 25 from 3-point range for 52%.

Local men

Virginia Wesleyan 79, Bridgewater 60: Amari Moorer collected 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead a balanced attack as the Marlins stayed in first place in the ODAC with a convincing road victory.

VWU (16-6, 11-2) has won seven of its past eight games.

Omari Deveaux (15), T.J. East (15), Demeir Pollard (11) and Paul Anderson (10) also reached double figures for the Marlins.

Christopher Newport 77, Salisbury 49: Toa Hollenbeck and Collin Hines scored 14 points each and Tyson Henderson added 12 points as the Captains (19-3) cruised to a road victory.

CNU never trailed and raced to a 41-16 halftime lead in its 11th consecutive victory.
