1 fatally shot at Hampton bar that had permit revoked, police say

Police in Hampton are investigating a fatal shooting early Saturday morning behind a bar in the downtown area of the city.

Just before 5 a.m., officers were in the Lincoln Street area when they heard gunshots, according to a news release. Moments later, emergency communications received several calls reporting a shooting at Karma Restaurant and Lounge, which is in the 1st block of Lincoln Street.

When police arrived at the bar, officers found a man who had been shot multiple times. Police rendered aid until Hampton fire and rescue personnel arrived, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say a verbal altercation began inside the bar and escalated into a fight in the parking lot behind the business. During the fight, someone pulled out a gun and shot the man.

There was no information about whether someone was in custody.

Karma’s permit was revoked in December due to several violent incidents at the lounge in 2025. The revocation meant the bar could no longer host live entertainment or serve alcohol, but it could continue to operate as a restaurant.

Another Hampton restaurant has had its permit revoked by city leaders
