A juvenile was taken to the hospital and later released after being shot early Sunday morning on the near West Side of Aurora, police said.
At approximately 2:17 a.m. Sunday, Aurora police officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 300 block of Sunset Avenue, according to a press release from the Aurora Police Department. Responding officers located a male juvenile who had been shot in the lower body, police said.
Officers immediately rendered aid to the juvenile until Aurora Fire Department paramedics arrived on scene and assumed care, according to the release. The juvenile was transported to a local hospital in stable condition and was later released, police said. No additional injuries were reported.
Detectives from the Aurora Police Department’s Investigations Bureau responded to the scene and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, the release stated. Evidence technicians also processed the scene and collected forensic evidence, police said.
Based on preliminary information, the incident appears to have been targeted, and there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the broader community, according to police.
