Fatal multi-vehicle crash closes northbound I-95 in Brevard County

Three people are dead after a multi-vehicle crash involving a wrong way driver in Brevard County early Sunday morning, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

At approximately 3:50 a.m., a 2020 Toyota Corolla was traveling southbound in the northbound inside lane of I-95 south of North Wickham Road, FHP said. A 2014 Chevrolet Impala was traveling northbound on the inside lane.

FHP said the driver of the Corolla was traveling the wrong way, causing the front of the vehicle to collide into the Impala. The impact caused a chain reaction between six other vehicles.

There were five transports to local hospitals, FHP said. Investigators are still confirming the identities of the occupants from all eight vehicles.

The driver of the Corolla and the driver and a passenger of the Impala were pronounced dead on scene, FHP said.

There is still roadblock for the northbound lanes of I-95 south of Wickham Road, FHP said. Traffic is being diverted onto Pineda Causeway. Tow trucks have been requested and are on-scene.

This crash remains under investigation.
