Cross country
Many Hampton Roads cross country teams participated at the RVA Relays at the Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville last week.
Hickory boys finished third out of 65 teams. St. John’s (Washington, D.C.) won the team title and two-time defending champions Cherokee (New Jersey) was second.
Hickory’s team of Bryce Edmonson, Tristan Fancher, Daniel Mudd, Tyler Trago and Zach Schubert covered the 12.5 K course in 30 minutes, 34 seconds.
Other local schools that placed in the top 20 were Cape Henry (8th), Jamestown (9th), Grassfield (14th), Ocean Lakes (17th) and Smithfield (20th).
On the girls side, Grafton finished runner-up out of 63 schools. Cherokee won the girls title.
The Clippers team of Macy Dodson, Sophia Byrne, Jillian Wallen, Abigail Divietro and Amelia Valenti.covered the course in 44:49.
Other local schools that placed in the top 20 were Kellam (17th), Great Bridge (18th) and Jamestown (19th).

Leah Orrock tallied two goals and an assist for the Wildcats. Lexi Curtis added a goal and an assist, and Harper Harris also scored once. Katelyn Gallagher logged one assist.

Thandiwe Schmidt and Caitlin Outlaw each scored twice for the winning Warriors. Brayden Johnston finished with a goal and two assists, and Brylee Prillaman added one goal.
#10 Hickory 9, King’s Fork 0
Caroline Jones and Elle Tyler each tallied two goals, with Jones also logging two assists. Abby Cullen recorded a goal and two assists. Laila Manipon, Ava Winterstein, Addison Darnell and Madison Weed all scored once. Erin Seery, Addison Drake, Sophia Lowry and Skylar Dugan all finished with an assist.

Izzy Zaszewski recorded a hat trick for the Crusaders, while Maggie Sidensticker and Anya Lundquist each scored once. Brooke Sunderland contributed an assist.

Captain Sarah Lewis led the midfield and scored once for the Cavaliers. Captain Jade Saunders added two goals. The Braves were led by captain Samantha Houlihan.

Grace Wright led the Oaks with a hat trick and two assists. Peyton Gallagher tallied two goals.

Charlie Braithwaite shot a 78 for the Falcons and was the medalist at Stumpy Lake Golf Course.

Kellam’s Jordin de Graaf was the medalist with a 71 at Kempsville Greens Golf Club.

Tallwood’s Steven Brann shot a 1-over-par 73 for the Lions and was the medalist at Stumpy Lake Golf Course.

The Dolphins, led by medalist Kaylee Bell with a 2-over-par 72, defeated the Chiefs at Kempsville Greens Golf Club.

Thomas Aman shot a 5-under-par 67 for the winning Monarchs and was the medalist at Newport News Golf Club at Deer Run.

Andrew Parker totaled 10 kills and seven aces for the No. 2 Comets.

The Chiefs were led by Wyatt Strawbridge with seven aces, four kills, five blocks and 44 assists. Rylan Patterson totaled 15 kills and two aces, while Trent Beeson added 11 kills and one ace. Hunter Pigh and Will Lauzon combined for 18 kills and six blocks.

Adam Donato led the Wildcats offensively with 10 kills. Chase Wolle provided 19 assists, and Colton Gordon logged nine digs. Nemo Bryant and Ryan Gorski totaled four blocks each.

Luke Shomaker and Sawyer Richard tallied 23 assists for the Commodores. Keegan Anuar, Caleb Bailey, Alex Van Benschoten and Rahsaan Spruill combined for 20 kills.

Brayden Sasser recorded 14 kills and two blocks for the Cavaliers. Garrett Vanhouten added 10 kills and four blocks, while Grant Parrish finished with 44 assists, five kills and two blocks.

Stephanie Martillo led defensively with 10 digs. Emmie Irving contributed 22 assists, and freshman Elle Barber added five assists coming off the bench.

Michaela Betancourt and Allie Wight combined for 32 assists as the Bulldogs defeated the Chargers in straight-sets.

The Dolphins improved to 8-3 and were led by Kate Kimball with 16 kills. Lucy Kurz added seven kills.

Senior captain Emma Edwards and captain Natalia Martinez Perez led the Lions defensively. Talea Coleman and Serenity Alexander led in assists and attacks.

Landstown d. Great Bridge, 3-1
Kailyn Johnson led the Eagles with 29 assists and 14 digs, while Isabella Decker contributed 12 kills. Cheyenne Wright finished with 18 kills and two blocks. Maddie Arnett solidified the defense with 32 digs.
