On Monday’s episode of British reality show “Made in Chelsea,” Sam Vanderpump opened up about the devastating diagnosis, revealing he has only been given a few years to live after complications with a major organ.
“We had a call from the doctors and I’ve got end stage liver disease,” he shared. “There is no hope of my liver getting better and he said, ‘I wouldn’t be having this call with you if I thought you could make it through the next four or five years.’ They’re sending me for a liver transplant assessment.”
The reality star said his doctors warned that a transplant is his only chance of survival. Still, Sam, who’s expecting his first baby with fiancée Alice Yaxley, told castmate Ollie Locke that he’s choosing to live fully in the present.
“The way I look at it, I’m healthy now,” he explained. “Hopefully I remain healthy all the way up until one day [when] they’ll give me a call, and I’ll go in for a surgery. And then I wake up and I’ll be healthier.”
Over the past few months, Sam has had a string of serious health issues, which started with severe back pain and dehydration, then escalated into liver and kidney failure.
In December 2024, Sam was hospitalized and diagnosed with life-threatening sepsis, “a serious condition in which the body responds improperly to an infection,” according to Mayo Clinic.
“We couldn’t really understand ourselves what was going on at the time,” he recalled during an appearance on “Good Morning Britain” in May. “I just wasn’t feeling great and was going back into hospital a few times and no one could really understand themselves. Not even the doctors knew what was going on.”
Sam is the son of Lisa Vanderpump’s late brother Mark, who died by suicide in April 2018 at the age of 59.
