NASA rolled out the rocket for the Artemis II moon mission to the launch pad at Kennedy Space Center on Saturday.
The Space Launch System rocket topped with the Orion spacecraft on its mobile launcher was hauled by NASA’s crawler-transporter 2 from the Vehicle Assembly Building to Launch Pad 39-B.
The Artemis II mission looks to fly humans on board Orion for the first time. NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover and Christina Koch as well as Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen are slated to make a 10-day trip that will take them past the moon farther than any human has traveled from Earth before.
The mission will pave the way for future Artemis missions including Artemis III, which looks to return humans to the lunar surface for the first time since Apollo 17 in 1972.
