HAMPTON — The two men found fatally shot Sunday evening at Peninsula Town Center have been identified by authorities.
The names of the men, 24-year-old Tylon Evans, of Suffolk, and 21-year-old Jeremiah Dean, of Hampton, were released Tuesday afternoon by the Hampton Police Division.
Police said the shooting occurred at around 7:05 p.m. on the second story of a parking garage across the street from the JCPenney store near Cunningham Drive. First responders attempted medical aid at the scene. One of the men was taken to a nearby hospital but later died there and the other was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police on Monday sought the public’s help in identifying a suspect. Hampton Police Division spokesperson Shaun Stalnaker said on Tuesday “there is no concern for the safety of the public at this time,” but also said he could not specify if a suspected shooter or shooters were at large, citing an investigation that remained active.
He said it does not appear that Evans and Dean were related. He said investigators were trying to piece together why the men were together when the shooting occurred. It was unclear if either men shot back at a possible suspect or suspects.
Investigators are calling the killings a double homicide.
Stalnaker said there weren’t any bystanders in the garage at the time of the shooting.
Investigators were reviewing camera footage of the garage and working to piece together a motive for the shooting, Stalnaker said. There were no witnesses.
