1 dead when car crashes into retention pond off Alafaya Trail

A Seminole County woman is dead when she drove an SUV into a retention pond Monday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The 25-year-old Oviedo resident who was not identified was driving a 2018 Volkswagen Atlas northbound on Alafaya Trail approaching Lake Hayes Road a little more than a mile north of UCF, according to an FHP crash report.

For unknown reasons, her vehicle ran off the roadway at 10:44 p.m. right into a retention pond on the northeast corner of the intersection.

The driver was transported to Oviedo Medical Center where she was pronounced dead, the report stated.

The crash remains under investigation.
